Supporting Diversity

I am passionate about supporting diversity & inclusion for traditionally marginalized groups in STEM. Through my involvement with Women in STEM, organizing social justice panels, and running Identity Workshops, I help support diversity in my local community and beyond.

Women in STEM Mentorship Program

A major gap in training and maintaining women in STEM fields can be lack of female role models. In May 2019, I created the WiSTEM Mentorship Program to connect trainees to women mentors on the CU AMC campus. We create mentor-mentee pairs that meet one-on-one once a month to discuss issues related to being a woman in STEM, which spans everything from dealing with stress to career development and beyond. The program hosts quarterly Mentorship Mixers where mentors and mentees come together to discuss topics and network, creating a WiSTEM Mentorship Community. Since its initial creation, the program now has a team of leaders and has developed new programs including a quarterly Book Club and an outreach program with local St. Mary’s Academy All Girls High School. The WiSTEM Mentorship Program has had a major impact on our campus and the local community, providing women trainees with mentorship and insight at critical times in their careers.

"I love the WiSTEM mentorship program. My mentor has given me so much support, insight, and advice on some issues and concerns I had with my program."

"

Great job! This is a valuable program!"

Postdoc Research Day Social Justice Panel

For Postdoc Research Day 2021, I organized a Social Justice Panel with representatives from across the CU Anschutz community who help to support diversity and inclusion in various ways. Enjoy hearing about what motivates these social justice warriors and how their work impacts the CU community and beyond.

Our work is never done

I believe that increasing diversity and inclusion is work that we must constantly undertake: to become aware of our biases, deconstruct them, and create spaces that are supportive and welcoming for all. I vow to continue to participate in workshops, trainings, and reflection on my practices, and to create policies, environments, programs, and practices that support an inclusive and diverse community.
